“To break the rules, you first have to master them.”
This sentence caught my eye the other day as I was reading something, and my brain has been going back to it constantly ever since.
This is especially poignant for those of us who are spending this day reflecting on the past year, and pondering the ways in which we want to make the coming year different.
How WE want to be different.
How we want to make a change, create waves, and make the world a better place.
This year, as you embark upon your journey of thinking outside the box and creating your own rules, make sure you first invest time and effort into mastering the existing ones. Know your way around them, and know their advantages as well as shortcomings.
